Code of Ethics & Fair Housing Requirements
The Code of Ethics training is required by the National Association of REALTORS® and is a
requirement to maintain membership in the local board of REALTORS®, the ND Association of
REALTORS® and the National Association of REALTORS®. The Code of Ethics training is a
3 year cycle requirement – each member must take an approved course every three years.
The current Code of Ethics cycle is January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2024. The next cycle is 2025 to 2027.
NEW in 2025
Starting in January 2025, every renewing REALTOR and REALTOR Associate must complete a fair housing course every three years. The first cycle runs from 2025 to 2027.
Members have six options to fulfill the requirement, including:
- Fair Haven (FHVN) – Free, online course by NAR
- Bias Override (BOVR) – Live course by NAR
- At Home With Diversity Certification (AHWD) – Certification course by NAR
- At Home With Diversity Course (HWD) – Course without certification
- Fair Housing Course (FAIRH) – Course created and maintained by state and local associations
NAR has launched a new tool that allows members to check their training status, choose their preferred Code of Ethics training format (online or in person), and go directly to the training options available to them. The Code of Ethics Training Selection tool is available at nar.realtor/code-of-ethics-training-selection.
*Note – C2EX (Commitment to Excellence) certification/endorsement meets this requirement. It will not be a “lifetime” equivalency & will be tied to meeting each cycle’s COE course. (more info to come).
