2017 Legislative Session – REALTORS® Legislative Impact Day

REALTORS®!  Mark your calendars now for next year’s REALTORS® Legislative Impact Day.  It will be on Wednesday, February 15.  That is the day REALTORS® and Home Builders go to the Capitol to meet with legislators and educate them on the value of REALTORS® and Home Builders and the positive economic impact we have on our communities.  This day also gives us an opportunity to share important policy messages with our legislators and allows us to share statistics and inform them about what has been happening in the real estate industry in their communities.  We will have tables for each local board set up in the Memorial Hall so local associations can share information specific to their legislative districts.

We meet early in the morning at the Capitol and attend committee hearings where legislation that impacts REALTORS® is being heard.  Then we adjourn to the Brynhild Haugland Room and receive an update from our REALTOR® legislators and House and Senate leaders on important legislation.  Next we sit in on the House and Senate sessions as they debate and pass or defeat legislation.  This year we’re asking everyone to wear their blue REALTOR® R t-shirts to make it obvious that it’s our day at the legislature.  Finally we host a social at the Ramada to thank legislators for being supportive of the REALTOR® Party.

More information will be forthcoming as the day approaches, but mark your calendars now…we’d love to have a massive turnout!

Appraisers Don’t Have to Test

NAR notched a win when HUD released updates to its FHA single-family loan handbook that removed language requiring appraisers to operate stoves and other appliances to test how well they work. NAR asked for the language to be changed, because the requirement is more appropriate for home inspectors. HUD revised the language to require appraisers to note the appliances in the property.

Live Webcast: Understanding the New FHA Condo Financing Rules

HUD officials are developing new rules that will make it easier for buyers to get loans to buy condominium units and improve the process condo projects must go through to get certified by the FHA. The rules, set to come out at the end of October, follow the passage earlier this year of a new law, H.R. 3700, designed to ease restrictions that have made it difficult for many creditworthy buyers to obtain mortgages for condos, a common entry point to homeownership in the United States. On Friday, Oct. 28, at 2 p.m. Eastern time, NAR is hosting a live webcast to help members understand the coming changes to the condo-financing and recertification processes. Guests will include two NAR staff members who played key roles in encouraging lawmakers to pass H.R. 3700. To register visit

Why Won’t That Lender Give You the Closing Disclosure?

Agents across the country say lenders are refusing to give them their client’s closing disclosure, saying it’s a privacy violation. But nothing in the law has changed to increase lenders’ privacy liability, NAR says, and you can still access the document to advise your clients. The issue is a top story in The Voice for Real Estate news video which is on the NDAR homepage or at this link.

ND REALTOR® Ring Day Right Around the Corner!

NDAR once again will take the lead in efforts of state associations all around the country to “ring” in the holiday giving season.  Mark your calendars for ND REALTOR® Ring Day, December 2, 2016, and join us in a common cause to do the most good.  You can be part of continuing the single largest community outreach activity ever taken on by a professional organization.

  • The idea to hold ND REALTOR® Ring Day came about as the result of the NDAR Membership Committee’s brainstorming of a project in which NDAR could be involved and that would be carried out statewide.  We knew our members were involved in their own communities, but wanted to participate in a joint effort that would benefit all of our communities.  The Minot Board of REALTORS® had been doing it as a local board for several years prior and a Fargo REALTOR® made the initial contact to get it going. The Salvation Army was the perfect fit because it offers so many housing-related programs.

  • The Salvation Army operates hundreds of housing facilities that provide everything from one night of shelter to a permanent home.  Every night, The Salvation Army houses more than 27,000 people across America.

  • In addition to providing housing, The Salvation Army offers rent and mortgage assistance for families facing foreclosures.

Gather your fellow REALTORS®, affiliate members, friends and family, and call your local board to reserve your “ring” time!
